Overview

Nestled in the heart of Hightstown, New Jersey, Little Key Coffee is a small but spirited coffee shop that serves more than just your average cup of joe. Located at 121 Mercer Street, this café has carved a niche with its expertly roasted beans and carefully crafted beverages. Their menu, featuring standout offerings like the Espresso and Milk, Cold Brew, and the intriguingly named Bumble Bee Latte, caters to those who appreciate balance and boldness in their coffee experience.

The atmosphere is intimate and straightforward, perfect for patrons seeking a quick yet satisfying coffee break. Seating is limited, reflecting the shop’s focus on efficiency and quality rather than lingering crowds. For travelers and locals alike, especially those making a detour off nearby I-95, Little Key Coffee presents a refreshing alternative to corporate chains.

Customers consistently praise the smoothness and depth of flavor in the iced coffee, noting its lack of bitterness and satisfying finish. The roasting process is clearly a point of pride here, ensuring every cup carries a rich, nuanced profile whether served as a cortado, mocha, or cold brew. Pastries, including gluten-free options, complement the drinks, though the selection tends to be modest—reinforcing the shop’s minimalist and no-nonsense ethos.

What sets Little Key Coffee apart is not only its beverages but also the personalized, heartfelt service from its owner. Patrons describe the experience as genuine, with a specialty tea menu that includes unexpected delights like masala and mint tea, both praised for their freshness and depth of flavor. These teas create a unique charm, making the shop stand out in a sea of coffee establishments.

Despite occasional quirks such as limited hours and competitive parking, the dedication and warmth behind the counter elevate Little Key Coffee from a mere pit stop to a beloved community gem. Whether you're after a quick caffeine fix or a thoughtfully brewed cup of tea, this is the kind of place where quality meets genuine care, delivered with passion in every pour.

Excellent iced coffee....not bitter at all and deliciously smooth. Not worth wasting money on the big chains if you are anywhere near this place.

Coffee is always well made and beans are always well roasted. A small shop, but I really enjoy coming here.

UPDATE: they have majorly updated their concessions, and it looks "wow!" This spot is a one-man show, and the owner is as friendly as they come. The pastry case, however, is more “cameo appearance” than “main feature” — limited options, not often replenished, and gone before you know it. Seating? Let’s just say you won’t be lingering long — and parking is a competitive sport. But here’s the thing: if you want a quick, no-nonsense cup of coffee to go, this place hits the mark. And the mint tea? Honestly, it’s the star of the show — fresh, flavorful, and worth a detour. Hours can be quirky (I swung by one Wednesday at lunch and it was closed on the dot at noon), but running a shop solo is no small feat. For the heart, hustle, and tea alone, it’s five stars from me.

Enthusiastic & Personal What an unexpected treat to find masala tea on the menu! I was already surprised to see it, but the taste was another level of wonderful—truly great. It's exactly the kind of seamless service I dream about, where I can just order 'tea' and be brought a perfect cup without having to make a single choice.

I recently stumbled upon a charming coffee shop nestled in the heart of Hightstown downtown. I decided to indulge in their medium iced Maple Latte, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer! The espresso is the perfect blend of robust and smooth, powering me through the entire day. The ambiance is welcoming, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. Due to its prime location, parking is a tad bit tricky. I'd recommend using the parking lot by the nearby park or opposite the Rise Thrift Store. The only wish I have is for them to remain open seven days a week. They're currently closed on Sundays and Mondays, and I find myself longing for their delectable lattes on those days. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and visit this gem!

We stopped in while on a road trip from Delaware and we were very impressed! The service was friendly and competent. The lattes we had were absolutely delicious, and the pastries were excellent! I purchased gluten free rasberry cookies without realizing they were gf and I couldn't tell the difference. It's worth your time to check this place out!

Hole in the wall coffee shop that is probably my favorite coffee/espresso in the state. Hours are a bit limited along with the pastry selection but when they’re open it’s definitely worth the trip if you’re passionate about coffee. Owner is friendly and you can tell he really cares - each cup is always consistently amazing.
